Big day for Apple watchers on Tuesday

Sep 7, 2014 at 8:34 am in General Trading by contrarianuk

Those with an interest in Apple from both an investing and usage perspective will be watching out with interest for news from the Flint Centre for the Performing Arts, in Cupertino, California on Tuesday for the much anticipated news on iPhone 6 but also potentially the iWatch.

Rumours abound of course with pictures appearing on the internet of the new iPhone but who knows if they’re real. Apple’s first foray into the wearable technology space will be of most interest to see if the company can really create a huge new category just like it did with its smart phone and tablet launches. Given that fashion editors and bloggers have been invited to the Flint Centre event, news on iWatch could finally be here after many months of anticipation.

The iPhone 6 is expected to have a much larger screen as a response to the success of Samsung’s latest phones. News on the iWallet, a mobile payment system is also expected, with the new iPhone able to deliver contact less payments.

iPhone 5 versus iPhone 6

Apple’s share price has done rather well this year, rising from the equivalent of $80 pre share split to the current $99 (the shares split 7 for 1 in June). The shares slipped last week after a well publicised celebrity hacking scandal in which nude photos were stolen from users accounts via iCloud hacks. The news on the iCloud hack is the last thing the company needed given fears about data security if it does decide to focus on the mobile payment sphere.

Whatever is finally announced in Cupertino, the key notes speeches from the various speakers including Tim Cook will be hugely anticipated after a relatively quiet period in terms of innovation from the company.
